First day of school

Today was our first day back to school. Miss A. is in the 3rd grade this 2011-2012 school year. As a back to school present I made for her a Shultute.

The Fancy Nancy Post

“I think fancy words are almost like magic. You can take a plain word like feather and – presto change-o! - turn it into something special … a plume! When you use one in a sentence, it's like adding sprinkles to vanilla ice cream!"

(Nancy from Fancy Nancy)

This week we decided to have a fancy homeschool day and read Fancy Nancy books written by Jane O'Connor and illustrated by Robin Preiss Glasser. Miss A put on a glamorous purple dress and a sparkling tiara with blue dazzling diamond slipper sandals.

I changed Miss A's pencil container for one a bit more posh (that's a fancy word for fancy) and added some kawaii (that means cute in Japanese) plush amis (that means friends in French). I designed a fancy desktop wallpaper featuring Fancy Nancy and Miss A for the school computer. I also printed some fantastique (that's French for fantastic) materials from the internet for our use.

Miss A. loved reading about Fancy Nancy and had a fabulous time. She loved learning alternate words for things such as: fuchsia for purple, parfaits for ice-cream sundaes, chauffeur for driver and stupendous for great.

Here's a list of the Fancy Nancy Books we read: Fancy Nancy, Fancy Nancy Explorer Extraordinaire!, Fancy Nancy The Dazzling Book Report and Fancy Nancy's Favorite Fancy Words From Accessories to Zany.

Do you know a special little girl? Do you know a little girl who likes to dress up and use her imagination? If so, then I encourage you to get some Fancy Nancy books and have a special fancy day. Since sharing is caring, here are the links for the resources I used:
